This brooch is from the early 1940s. It is made from lucite from the windscreens of crashed fighter planes. This material was repurposed into jewellery.
Reverse carved and back painted. Not actually embedded in the material.
Grandfather bought it for grandmother in the early 1940s.
The contributor inherited it from grandmother after her death.
They thought it was plastic at first.
Lucite is a polymethyl methacrylate, with good resistance to weathering and shock.
