Just a week after the D-Day landings my grandfather's brother (Jack Thomas) sent a letter to my grandparents (Alf and Katie) describing his experiences on a minesweeper during the invasion that had taken place the previous week. As mentioned in the letter, Jack had also sent a similar letter to his wife (Vi). Jack was a stoker, 1st Class on HMS Salamander that was part of the 1st Minesweeper Flotilla (MSF) that swept the channel to Sword Beach (designated channel 9).
