Leslie Coombs' service in Burma

online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 19:35 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

My father, Leslie Thomas Coombs, was born in Plymouth. I was born in 1955.

I am bringing items belonging to my late parents. Among these are parts of a scrapbook that was created pre-full outbreak of war by my father - created in barracks in India (Devonshire Regiment).

Plus other odd items relating to both my parents experiences in Plymouth, India and Burma.

Father enlisted (in Devonshire Rgt) in 1933. He was sent to India and then Burma, where he was involved in 3 years of fighting. His unit trained to go to Japan (for the invasion), but he didn't go to Japan.

Father returned with malaria and dramatic moodswings. He didn't talk about the war but could relate to Vietnam War.
