Law and Film Seminar, Florida A&M University

This course will examine how the law and lawyers have been depicted in film and television over the years; other media may be included. Students will be required to view two movies and selected television programs each week and prepare a written comparison of the role of the law and lawyers as they are depicted by the authors and actors. Topics that will be examined include the use of the rules of evidence, courtroom etiquette, ethics, gender, ethnicity, and a comparison of the victims and types of legal issues covered by the shows. This information has been collected for the Post-Discipline Online Syllabus Database. The database explores the use of literature by schools of professional education in North America. It forms part of a larger project titled Post-Discipline: Literature, Professionalism, and the Crisis of the Humanities, led by Dr Merve Emre with the assistance of Dr Hayley G. Toth.
