Gatty Slip: Anglo Saxon circular fibula, found on Chatham Lines, 1782. It has lost the ivory circle in the centre. Formerly in the Rolfe coll. Vide Douglas' Nenia Britannica, pl. 8, fig. 1? 1 5/8 in. diam.Mayer card: circular fibula, 1 5/8 inch diam. It has lost the ivory circle from its centre and some of its garnet settings. Chatham 1772.Douglas, Nenia Brit., pl. viii, fig. 1The brooch refered to on the Gatty Slip and on the SCH Card (Douglas 1793, pl. 8.2.1) is held at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (MacGregor and Bolick 1993, Cat. no. 6.5). – B.B.SCH had originally placed this object with dis-associated material from Chartham Down in spite of the reading of \Chatham\" on the Mayer card. The Gatty Slip indicates that this object is from Chatham Lines 1782 (possibly reading 1732) not Chartham Down. – D.H."
