Kentish disc brooch

Silver-gilt jewelled disc brooch (Leeds Class I,b), diam. 3.7cm. Large circular cell in centre, with corroded wire collar, and green stained and shiny shell or more probably ivory disc in centre, with garnet (flat) in cell in centre. Four radiating wedge-shaped cells with flat garnets on chequered gold foil, and between four small round cells with flat white paste insets. Intervening spaces filled by miscellaneous chip-carved motifs, degenerate heads, legs, barring, etc. Flat rim with two rows of nielloed triangles. Rim very worn. On back, catchplate and usual attachment for iron spring-coil. Pin missing.
