John was in Malta during WWII, during the siege of Malta. His prayer book shows the locations he visited.

The photographs that the contributor brought show John Thomas Leech coming in on HMS Kenya, three men ('Yorkie, me and steak'), he and his mother in August 1939, and he and H.R. Watkins in Malta, 1943. The dog tag reads, 'J T Leech CAR RN COE'.

John Thomas Leech wrote to people he served with and got their recollections, putting together a folder containing various items about siege of Malta. He wanted to know everything he could. The folder contains Ted Whitley's memories.
