John Spenser served in the Scottish regiment. Changed name to Jock and known as that for rest of life. Book called 'The Melancholy State'. Story of PoWs. In Italy and marched - mistake in the book.
After the war in Brighton. Went to Capetown in 1946, not 1945 as it says in book.

Went to war with black hair and came back with white hair. Captured in El-Alamein, forced march to Libya and Prisoner of War in Italy. Then marched to Germany. Very hungry.

Very much did not want to talk about the war.
