The letters were found when the contributor's great uncle John died at the age of 21 years. These were written to the contributor's grandfather and grandmother. He wrote about learning to fly, being excited to be flying, fearlessness, and the huge number of fatalities from training. He died during training. It was foggy and raining, and he flew into a hill in Gloucestershire. The contributor's grandmother received a telegram and asked to get in touch because of the bad news of his death. Her grandparents never spoke about the war.
