Joan Gibson at Blackpool during the war

online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 18:14 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

Joan's photos show her with her parents on Blackpool promenade. They were done by photographers who snapped families, and you could buy a print afterwards. Joan was two years old in the oldest one, and recalls she was crying because her metal spade had scratched her leg. She is a little older in the others. Joan wondered why her father was here on holiday in wartime, but then recalled he was a veteran of the first war, and an ARP warden in the Second World War. Joan is 84 now.
