Sword: in poor condition, parts of the blade eroded away at sides, and the remainder splitting in horizontal plane: broken at top. Length 78.5cm (31 inches), but top of tang and tip of blade missing - original length c. 86c, (34 inches approx.). Considerable remains of wooden sheath with vertical ribbing with hairy remains beneath (sheepskin lining?). Impression of lower guard clear, width 1.4cm, fixed over leather.X-ray 26: 2 composite rods in standard pattern - filler rods at sides? From Sarre or Bifrons; the only catalogue number for a sword not covered otherwise is KAS 828; why SCH considered the catalogue no. 834 for a second sword is not clear. – B.B.X-ray could not be located in 2006-7. – D.H.
