Iron sword, organic remains of scabbard

Fragment of sword tang and upper part of blade, total length 12cm. Clear impression of lower guard, transverse wood grain, width 1.5cm. Substantial remains of scabbard on upper blade, vertical wood grain and hairy impressions beneath. Width of blade about 6cm.X-ray no. 62: Indistinct traces of pattern welding: at least 3 and probably 4 composite rods.Also what may be the tip of the same sword; length 16cm. Same colour scabbard remains: same X-ray no. Indistinct traces of pattern welding.X-ray could not be located in 2006-7. – D.H.
