Fragmentary shield grip, length 12cm, in 2 pieces. The handle part has upcurved sides, and the disc-headed rivets have been set on a lozenge-shaped terminal. Clear evidence of break at more complete end suggests grip of 'long' type. Substantial wood remains on underside: with lengthwise grain from wooden bar inside grip, and with transverse grain from shield-board at ends. This one is rather sandy and may have been from Gilton.
