Iron shield boss with wood and leather remains

Damaged boss, height 10cm, diam. c. 17cm. Largish stud (diam. 4cm) above concave dome, marked carination, indented waist and wide sloping flange. Flange mostly missing, but originally five disc-head rivets diam. 2.8cm Slight wood or leather remains on underside. This boss has been repaired in antiquity. Clear indications on one side that a new flange was welded on. N. Thames?
