Iron shield boss with wood and leather remains

Fragmentary boss, in many pieces and incomplete. Height about 7.8cm, diam about 17.8cm (7 inches). Carinated boss with convex dome, disc stud on top, slight ridge carination above nearly vertical waist and sloping flange - flange width 2.8cm. Leather and wood remains under flange. Boss badly corroded and covered with sand accretion. Gilton? Probably not Faussett.
