Shield boss, height 8.2cm, diam. 14.8cm. Carinated boss with low con-shaped dome above ridge carination, short vertical waist and broad flange, width 2cm. Button on top of dome, covered with sheet silver disc. 5 disc-headed studs around flange - mostly covered with rust, but one silver-plated. The two intact studs have bronze washers at back. The boss very corroded and covered in fine sand, so is probably from Gilton.Catalogue number almost certainly incorrect.According to the Gatty Slips, catalogue number M 6247 belongs to a shield boss from Kingston grave 2. – D.H.
