Iron scramaseax, length 32.5cm, but tip of tang and point of blade damaged. Unusually heavy and solid, with thick collar just 1cm wide at top of blade. Wood remains on handle. Max width of blade 3.6cm, thickness c. 0.5cm.This seax has lost its museum labels but checking with the seaxes fromt he Faussett cemeteries has made it that this must be the seax from Ozingell. The drawings in Collectanea antiqua are 1/3 actual size and what remains of this seax corresponds very closely in size. Blade length originally 27.28cm, including iron guard; tang length originally c. 12.5cm with the pommel. Total length c. 40cm. There was a socket hat pommel on an upper guard originally, which does not survive. Metal unknown, possibly iron, though pommel may well have been bronze or even silver.
