Iron lock plate of the casket

Iron lock-plate, slide, length 14.5cm. Faussett very rightly calls it a bolt. A very common type. Flat-iron shaped plate, length 5.7cm, with round holes in shoulders, with projecting rods at either end, probably rectangular originally. This bolt will have been inside the box lid, reach through a hole by a key which engaged with the holes in the plate and slid the bolt. In his sketch, Faussett indicates the iron staples, corroded into the rods, by which the bolt was secured.cf. Gilton grave 62; Sibertswold graves 10 100 (no size), 151 and 180; Kingston grave 205; etc. Douglas' engraving of Kingston grave 205 shows a bolt - plate 10.8. Therefore, possibly not from grave 142?
