Iron snaffle bit, with two links of unequal lengths, 10cm and 8.7cm, which united give a total length of jut over 17cm, and side rings each 6cm diam. The links are very thick and heavy sub-rectangular bars with loops, at least two of which show traces of the hammered over ends; on the longer one loops are in different places, on the smaller they are the same. This is an unusually large bit - the Alfriston bit was 1 3/4 inches [shorter], the Sarre 28 bit was described as small, the Garton bits appear to have been slightly smaller. N.B. found with horse jaw bone near surface of grave.Parallels: Sarre 28; Garton Slack grave 10 (2 bits), 7th c.; Bishopsbourne, 7th c.; Alfriston gr. 91, 6th century; Leighton Buzzard, 7th c.; etc.
