online resource
posted on 2021-10-27, 15:31 authored by Helena HamerowHelena Hamerow
Cold chisel: length 11.8cm. In extremely good condition: and very dense, high quality iron. Forged with somewhat octagonal section. Head only slightly expanded through hammering. The shaft is thick and tapers very slightly towards the cutting edge. It differs distinctly from the chisel or wedge in grave 233.Parallels: the small chisel in grave 233, which was 6cm long, and whose end was much expanded. It may have been a wedge.Possibly associated with grave 39 (palstave or chisel?) or Graves 143-147 (iron tool?)
