Iron axe head with wooden shaft remains (lower burial)

Lower burial. Iron axe by left foot, length 14cm, width of blade 12.5cm, but edges somewhat damaged. The axe is triangular in longitudinal cross-section, with heavy broad back, with sub-rectangular socket containing remains of the wooden shaft. Viewed from the front, the socket projects at the sides. The blade has a symmetrically expanded cutting edge.Parallels: Lyminge, gr. 1, with mid-6th C. buckle and plate, boss of 6th C. type, angular spearhead, etc. Lyminge gr. 7, with buckle and knife, undatable (but this one did not have the projecting socket). Petersfinger, gr. 21, with Frankish large-cell cloisonné buckle, Sword scabbard, boss etc. probably first half sixth - but again the axe has not got the heavy projecting socket. Haillot grs. 13 and 17, both less expanded in the blade, and both early 6th C. in date.
