Inlaid gold pendant

online resource
posted on 2021-10-27, 07:20 authored by Helena HamerowHelena Hamerow
Gold and garnet pendant, length with loop 1.65cm. Oval cabochon garnet in plain sheet gold collar, with plain backplate projecting slightly to form rim, and rim decorated with 3 beaded wires. Loop made of strip of corrugated gold, flat inside, middle corrugation wider than flanking pair, soldered on; rolled on top, with end soldered up into loop, back end squared off and soldered onto back. Beading of rim disturbed by it: outer wire carried across inside loop, inner diverted by it: suggests loop put before beading. Similar technique to M 6619. Loop shows no sign of wear, but outermost beading worn smooth in places.Lab results: AuAgCuBack72244Beading67258Loop68284
