The way lawyers and legal institutions are portrayed in popular media has important implications for litigants, juries, lawmakers, and lawyers. This seminar will look at portrayals of law and the legal profession in television and film, and discuss how those do – and do not – match institutions in the real world, as well as how they influence behavior among both lawyers and non-lawyers. Satisfies the perspective requirement. This information has been collected for the Post-Discipline Online Syllabus Database. The database explores the use of literature by schools of professional education in North America. It forms part of a larger project titled Post-Discipline: Literature, Professionalism, and the Crisis of the Humanities, led by Dr Merve Emre with the assistance of Dr Hayley G. Toth.
