Born in 1937 in Essex before outbreak of the war.

Father served in the Royal Navy - joined in Glastonbury and served for the duration.

Contributor never saw his father during the war. He has been anti-war since childhood (presumably because of what he witnessed during wartime). Attributes his longevity to rationing - now very conscious of what he eats and thankful for his frugal upbringing.

Once spent Christmas at American base.

After war, father went on to serve in Metropolitan Police while remaining in the Royal Navy Reserves.
