Hilda Wardle was from Sheffield and joined the WLA and was sent to North Wales - particularly Benarth Hall, Conwy.
One memorable incident occurred in November 1944 when Hilda rescued an RAF navigator from the River Conwy - however she was sent out of the room when the airman changed his clothes!
