Gold solidus of Emperior Leo I, Constantinople (457-74). Wgt. 4.461 grammes.obv. DNLEOPE RPETAVG. Head of Emperor 3/4 r. wearing helmet with diadem and two hanging appendices behind; cuirass and mantle, hand raised to shoulder height palm outwards fingers curled at left, something quite elaborate on right shoulder.rev. VICTORI AAVGGGE. In exergue C NOB. Victory facing l., holding cross standard. Star on field on left.Good yellow gold, in very fresh condition, upper relief only slightly worn. On both sides a broad plain rim finished with punch-work along edge. Mayer Coll.
