Gold bird pendant

Gold pendant in form of bird, length 3.8cm. Made with sheet gold backplate, and cold cell-work with beaded wire border at base edges: gold loop at top of head. Head with green glass cabochon for eye, flat garnets for beak and head; flat blue glass around neck; small cells lower on neck empty, flat paste roundel on hip, flat blue glass on top of ?wing projections flanking it; flat garnet on forked tail. Cabochon garnet in gold cell in centre of white setting. Little gold cells on edges of beak, in angle of ?wing projections and tail, have ?iron ?silver rivets passing through from front to back. Not work on beading at all.Mayer said from Rolfe Coll. but Joseph Clarke said given to Mayer by Mr. Hertz. Proc. Hist. Soc. Lanc. and Cheshire IX, p. 277.
