online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 19:39 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

George S Tilley joined the RN in 1941. His ship was sunk during a torpedo attack, Tilley became blind during this. His memoir (attached) tells of the sinking, the time in the lifeboat at sea, then his gradual journey back to Britain through Russia (continually suspected of not being British and/or a deserter). He did partially regain his sight after an operation.
