My father was in the volunteer fire brigade in Bristol until March 1941 when he was called up to join the Royal Signals. He spent some time in the UK and was then sent to India. In September 1944, he went to the Officer Training School at Mhow. He was commissioned into the RAOC in January 1945 and returned to the UK in June 1945.

Throughout his army career, he wrote and received many letters from his mother, family and friends.
