'A Private War,' a new local history book for those interested in WW2 by Carol Draper.
Carol recently published her dad's war diaries. After the war, he became the founder of "AH Spares," initially in Whitnash and then moved to Southam.
He was born in Smisby near Ashby de la Zouch in 1919 and was conscripted into the Royal Leicestershire Regiment at the age of 20 (1939). Travelling through Egypt, Transjordan, Syria, and India, his final destination was Burma, where he served as a Chindit.
Preserved for over eighty years in an old Ovaltine tin, Carol has meticulously edited her dad's eight original handwritten notebooks.
This literary work serves as a capsule, encapsulating the transformative experiences of one man during the Second World War. Even after eighty years, the narrative power of my dad's five-year story remains unwavering, serving as a poignant reminder of the resilient human spirit in the face of adversity.
Putting the book together has been a real labour of love and had its emotional rollercoasters, but it is something that Carol is incredibly proud of.
