<p dir="ltr">The contributor was a child in WWII.</p><p>The contributor visited a museum in France, which brought back strong memories for her of dark, claustrophobic bomb shelters in London. </p><p>She was evacuated to Lincoln in 1943. London was in constant darkness, and there was always a feeling of adrenaline and anticipation for the worst. She described the sheer fright of hearing the bombs drop around London. As a little child, she saw the rubble of nearby houses and wondered if she might be next.</p><p>The contributor's father enlisted in the army but was an engineer, so was not allowed to join. So, he also worked as a fire warden. </p>
