<p dir="ltr">I was born in 1940 but I have clear memories of being put to bed with my older sister (now deceased) in the family air raid shelter. We lived in Hillingdon near Uxbridge, so there was a lot of activity overhead as the Air Force planes flew towards London.</p><p>My father Sydney West had the prescience to move his family out of London. My father showed much initiative in growing and providing good food for us - meat and vegetables. He was employed as an accountant by HMV that was manufacturing shells in Hayes.</p>
