Discussion

According to Halkin, despite the fact that in the later Greek tradition Paula is usually presented as a companion martyr of *Loukillianos (martyr of Byzantion, S01764), there is no early evidence of her presence in the Martyrdom of the latter (E06125). It seems that the present text, of uncertain date, was composed in order to attach Paula, possibly an originally independent martyr, to the story of Loukillianos and his companions (Halkin 1963, 57-59).
