The letter is addressed to Apa Biktor, the abbot of the monastery of Phoibammon.
Lines 1–5 of the document read as follows:
+ ⲕⲱ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲉⲓϭⲛ ⲭⲁⲣⲧⲏⲛ ⲧⲁⲁⲥ ⲙⲡⲑⲉⲟⲫⲓⲗ(ⲉⲥⲧⲁⲧⲟⲥ) ⲛⲥⲟⲛ [ⲁ]ⲡⲁ ⲃⲓⲕⲧⲱⲣ ⲡⲉⲡⲣⲟⲉⲥⲧⲱⲥ [ⲛ]ⲫⲟⲓⲃⲁⲙⲙⲱⲛ
'Forgive me because I have not found papyrus (to write on). Give it to the most God pleasing brother, Apa Biktor, the proestos [of] Phoibammon.'
