Anysios, Life and Martyrdom of Athenogenes (BHG 197b), 37
[For a summary and discussion of the complete Martyrdom, see E02993.]
‘37. Once the sentence was decided like this, the executors kindled the fire in which the holy martyr and bishop Athenogenes was to be put to death, on a site where there is now a venerable house in the city of Sebasteia, near the so-called Statue. On that site also saint Petros, the old bishop of Sebasteia, who was a friend of saint Athenogenes, had been put to death by fire. He had earned the crown of martyrdom before him. He rests in Bizaza.’

Discussion
For a summary and discussion of this text, see E02993.
This passage informs us about the existence of a shrine on the site of execution of Athenogenes, and of the fact that the same site was where another saint, Petros, bishop of Sebasteia had been martyred. The figure of Petros may be the homonymous bishop appearing in the martyrdom account of the Forty Martyrs (E01303), and his memory may have been known to Gregory of Nyssa (E01304).
