E02789: Latin hymn to *Severinus (hermit and monk of Noricum, S00848) for the feast day of Severinus. On the basis of the episodes told in the Life of Severinus by Eugippius (E02347), it praises Severinus for the miracles he performed, the help he gave to people oppressed by war, and his writing of a monastic rule. Presumably written in Naples, at an uncertain date, possibly late antique.

Anonymous hymn to Saint Severinus
Summary:
Praises Severinus on the day of his death (hunc diem festum celebremus omnes, quo Severinus penetravit almus), and recounts miracles performed, in particular protection of cities through prayer, apparition of heavenly light, multiplication of oil, healing, the resurrection of Silvinus. It also refers to the rule for monks prepared by Severinus. The hymn directly addresses the city of Naples, the likely intended audience.
Text: Knöll 1886, 71-73. Summary: M. Pignot.

Discussion
The hymn is of uncertain date: it was clearly composed for the feast day of Severinus, and was presumably produced for celebrations in the city of Naples.
