Inscription on a white marble column (H.1.5 m, diameter 0.5 m) belonging to the eastern portico of the agora street.

Discussion

The inscription is a request for help for the town of Ephesos addressed to Mary as the Theotokos, the Bearer of God. The name Theotokos is very unlikely to occur in inscriptions before the council of Ephesus (431).
