<p dir="ltr">Rosemary's father, Douglas, was captured on the other side of the Channel during the war. He spoke of foraging for turnips and how some prisoners were killed when kicked by horses and died.</p><p>He was held in a POW camp for the majority of the war, probably in Germany.</p><p>He ended up weighing 6.5 stone with visible jaundice. He never wanted to eat canteen food, as one officer had actually put teeth in it.</p><p>Despite his experiences, he didn't hate the Germans as a people.</p><p>After the war, Douglas didn't attend university as he didn't have the time and needed to get a job. He eventually became a lecturer and invented a tactic to fix oil disasters.</p><p>Douglas passed away in 1980.</p>
