5 years old when the War started (now 89).
Found out on the radio - all told to listen at 11 am. Message from the King.
Dad was exempt as he was a builder in York. (Dad was born in 1907).
Didn't go to school to care for brother.
When rationing started when I was 6, I started Aid Raid when 7.
Moved to Wales to help brother, helped on the farm - got better food. After a year left Wales. 1942 brother died.
Dad called to London - bombed out once. Moved around in London including Clapham. Didn't go to school full time until 11.
Miss Biscum "Miss Biscuit" came to visit her to help her learn at home. Dad thought education was very important.
Rationing was the worst bit. Jam and bread were a treat!
An egg a week, gave brother the best powered egg, was awful.
