<p dir="ltr">5 years old when the War started (now 89). <br>Found out on the radio - all told to listen at 11 am. Message from the King.<br>Dad was exempt as he was a builder in York. (Dad was born in 1907).<br>Didn't go to school to care for brother.<br>When rationing started when I was 6, I started Aid Raid when 7.<br>Moved to Wales to help brother, helped on the farm - got better food. After a year left Wales. 1942 brother died.<br>Dad called to London - bombed out once. Moved around in London including Clapham. Didn't go to school full time until 11.<br>Miss Biscum "Miss Biscuit" came to visit her to help her learn at home. Dad thought education was very important.<br>Rationing was the worst bit. Jam and bread were a treat!<br>An egg a week, gave brother the best powered egg, was awful.<br>Please continue with the Extract.</p>
