Ann's father was a Battle of Britain pilot, Alexander (Sandy) Vallance Riddell Johnstone. He led 602 Squadron (City of Glasgow). After the war, he was involved in the Siege of Malta. He helped to form the Malaysian Air Force and ended his career in Scotland, at Pitreavie.
