Diary extracts from William Pearson

online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 17:14 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

Thomas has brought in a 1940 diary belonging to his great-grandfather, William Pearson. The diary came into his possession after the death of his grandfather. The front of the diary was bought from A B Murray, a printer and stationer in Wigan. Pearson worked on the railways, joined the BEF, and went to Brest in France. One of the first entries in the diary mentions a Captain Tucker being killed on 4 January. It seems he realized when he was out there it was significant as he recorded things in 1940 but stopped after he was evacuated.
