I visited the beaches of Normandy with my father Major Hugh Robertson, including Courseilles-Sur-Mer. Nothing prepared me for the depth of feeling. For the length of the shadow cast. For everything that had been kept inside for 40 years.
I looked on D-Day rather differently after this experience. I thought this piece of writing might help others to understand the depths of the feeling...the very real grief and, to some extent, anger at the waste of young lives.
