David 'Dan' Bent, DSC (Grandfather), won the DSC at D-Day. In an interview recorded in 2002, he tells of his action on HMS Tartar, stationed near Plymouth, ordered as a result of receiving a signal from Bletchley Park to intercept German destroyers about to attack D-Day convoys. He talks about the battle and tactics used. David Bent joined the RN at the age of 17. He collected 1930s German money. He was a gunnery officer and received shrapnel injuries to his face and hand in battle.

Major Ian Hamilton was in the Army (logistics) and fought in the North African campaign.
