Copper-alloy chatelaine pendant

Gatty Slip: Small brass instrument, found at Gilton Town, Kent. Formerly in the Faussett coll. Vide Inven. Sep. pl. 12, fig. 6 [image]Bronze chatelaine pendant, length with ring 4cm. The chief motif the terminal double hammer with squared top, flat, with large ring and dot in centre and punched circles flanking it in row up flat part of shank. At top the shank becomes circular sectioned and thinner, and is bent artistically into a loop with the surplus and brought down and spirally twisted around base of loop. The loop was previously threaded with a small closed bronze suspension ring.The pendant is likely to have come from one of the graves that produced copper-alloy chatelaine pendants: 27, 41, 76, 81 or 87. – D.H. & B.B.
