He was born in 1940. He remembered an air raid from when he was about 4 years old. They had a Morrison shelter in the house and an Anderson shelter in the yard. His father became an Air Raid Warden. His uncle worked with radios and so stayed in the country during the war.

One of his hobbies as a young boy was collecting shrapnel from anti-aircraft guns.

His family didn't really talk about their experiences during the war.
