Early childhood in Cardiff during WW2.

Grew up living near steelworks - father worked there. Lived through bombing and fire-bombing of industrial areas of Cardiff and saw bombing of steelworks and ARP Wardens working. Remembers hiding in Anderson Shelter with father, brother - in cupboard behind the stairs.

Remembers the end of war period - street parties for VE Day, going around to bonfire sites, and later to victory parades in Cardiff.

Recalls from her childhood having a strong fear of the Germans.

Father also served as a member of the Home Guard.
