Childhood Memories of the War - Margaret King

8 years old when the war started. Two younger sisters - born in 1935 and 1937. Mother invited lots of evacuees for tea. New Zealand soldiers performed the haka on the lawn one day - a terrifying sight. Father went to Bristol to train engineers to make aeroplane engines. The family car was a large green Morris 2.0. Mother was a bad driver. Mother threw chocolate bars to passing soldiers in army vehicles. Left the family home when it was commandeered. Three children were sent to Roundham House boarding school in Paignton, Devon. Mother and father rented a 3-bed house in Bristol. See also wartime memories uploaded as PDF.
