History

Item list and details

The document is an extract of my father's memoirs of his childhood, written after he retired in the 1990s. His father was in the ground force of the RAF. As a child during WW2, he was evacuated with his mother and older brother from London to stay in a large house near Horam, a village in East Sussex. His memoirs of life as a small child in the country are a detailed depiction of a way of life that no longer exists today. The extract here specifically details his recollections of growing up as a small child near the south coast during WW2 and the impact on his family, as he perceived them both then and in later life.
