Attached to this record is a typed account written by Charles' son, Martin Wright, which has been provided in recent years via email. The typed notes indicate that Charles was appointed to the SEAC when he was about 34 years old. He was posted to Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, and places in Ceylon and Singapore. Lord Mountbatten accepted the surrendered weapons (one of three) in Singapore in 1945. Charles returned in 1946 to deliver the swords to the War Office in London. He was a second lieutenant, then lieutenant, then captain, and finally a T. Captain. Two swords were given to the War Office, and one was kept. This sword has remained in the family ever since.
